I am a Nurse Practitioner who specialises in working with people experiencing drug and alcohol issues and associated mental health issues. I have been working in mental health for over 35 years and have spent many of the last 25 years working in the drug and alcohol sector. I strive to provide the best and most appropriate services and non-judgemental care to people who often feel marginalised and judged in society. In collaboration with the client, I provide a comprehensive assessment and, with the client, create a realistic and achievable plan.

As a Drug and Alcohol Nurse Practitioner at Oqea Cares I have a particular interest in working with clients experiencing substance use issues. I can work with you to help you change your use of the following substances:

  • Alcohol
  • Amphetamine type stimulants (methamphetamine)
  • Opioids (heroin, pain medications)
  • Benzodiazepines (Diazepam)
  • Cannabinoids
  • Tobacco
My training and skillset

I have a Master in Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapy and a Master in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner).

My therapeutic approach

In collaboration with the client, we can negotiate goals and establish effective, achievable plans to help change behaviour. I can offer therapeutic techniques and strategies such as:

  • Biopsychosocial assessment
  • Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapy Motivational interviewing
  • Drug and alcohol withdrawal management
  • Relapse prevention
  • Harm minimisation
  • Behaviour change support
  • Taking back control in relation to substance abuse
  • Blood borne virus testing and treatment
  • Negotiating pathways to other drug and alcohol services to match the needs of the individual
