For those who are neurodivergent, managing how we feel and retain information can be challenging as our main ‘management system’ in charge of memory and emotions may function differently. Acute stress is a heightened stress response following an event that places immediate and unexpected demands on a person’s psychological functioning. Recognising the initial symptoms and discovering strategies to cope with an acute stress reaction can help alleviate these symptoms over time, preventing them from escalating into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
