Psychologists and Psychiatrists both play crucial roles in mental health care, but Psychologists typically focus on therapy and behavioural interventions, while Psychiatrists can prescribe medications and have a more medical approach.
Psychologists can conduct psychological assessments, and use evidence-based practices to help clients manage and overcome mental health issues. They use various therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more.
At Oqea Cares, the two professions collaborate to provide comprehensive mental health care.
Online sessions are with our psychologists and psychiatrists can be available by phone or video through Telehealth on our Oqea platform. We’ll schedule a consult with you and send you a link with you once arranged.
No. Oqea Cares is a private practice. You can still claim Medicare and Private Health benefits, but a fee will be payable on the day of your consultation.
Yes. Medicare rebates for services may also be available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year, under Medicare Better Access to Mental Health. You will need a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan, or a psychiatrist or paediatrician referral to access the rebate.
The first thing you need to do is check with your pharmacist.
Your current medication bottle or box will list your pharmacy details, and sometimes how many repeats are left. This is is not the case, please call or visit your pharmacist to find out if you have any repeats. If you do, you can arrange your repeat prescription pick up directly with your pharmacist.
⚠️ Please note: scripts expire after 6 months, even if repeats are left.
Make sure your repeat prescription medication is dispensed to you within 6 months.
Your dose or type of medication can not change until a review is made with your Psychiatrist at an appointment.
Stimulant medication refers to Vyvanse, Dexamphetamine, Ritalin and Concerta.

Your medication can be reviewed at your next appointment and a script can be arranged there by your psychiatrist. If you don’t have another appointment, you can schedule one soonest available by calling our practice during office hours.
