What's the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist?

Psychologists and Psychiatrists both play crucial roles in mental health care, but Psychologists typically focus on therapy and behavioural interventions, while Psychiatrists can prescribe medications and have a more medical approach.

Psychologists can conduct psychological assessments, and use evidence-based practices to help clients manage and overcome mental health issues. They use various therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more.

At Oqea Cares, the two professions collaborate to provide comprehensive mental health care.

Can I have a consultation from home?

Online sessions are with our psychologists and psychiatrists can be available by phone or video through Telehealth. We’ll  schedule a consult with you and send you a link with you once arranged. You’ll also receive an SMS when the call starts so you don’t need to worry if you can’t find your email in time.

Is Oqea Cares a bulk-billing practice?

No. Oqea Cares is a private practice. You can still claim Medicare and Private Health benefits, but a fee will be payable on the day of your consultation.

Can I claim a psychologist consult on Medicare?

Yes. Medicare rebates for services may also be available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year, under Medicare Better Access to Mental Health. You will need a medical referral from a GP or Psychiatrist to access the rebate.

How much will it cost?

It depends on what services you require and the experience of the therapist, are but typcially our fee starts at
$210.00 per 50 min session, and with a Medicare Rebate, it will cost you $96.65.

Medicare rebates may be available for up to 10 sessions per year.
